The monsoons have arrived, bringing dramatic clouds, lightning, rainbows, and a very green desert. Looking out the window yesterday afternoon, I could no longer force myself to stay indoors. I grabbed the camera and off I went, chasing clouds and light.
Although Eldorado, where we live, seems to have
just the right location for spectacular clouds and sunsets, there are not many interesting foregrounds. So, I usually go down the road to Lamy or Galisteo. I was fortunate to find a pretty spectacular image of the sun breaking through clouds over the old Galisteo cemetery. I did not linger long outside the truck, however. Shortly before, as I was driving down the road, the entire environment inside the truck and out flashed in a split second of blinding white light, followed immediately by a loud explosion. Lightning sounds a lot different when it strikes next to you. No rumble of thunder.
